| Paintings by Gloria CliffordI am a painter using oils, watercolors and most recently acrylics, to express the emotions and feelings I have about our world as an artist. Most of the paintings that I render are related to some sort of tropical bird, flower or plant that I find beautiful or wondrous. I especially love to paint birds in their environment; toucans, macaws, flamingos and parrots being my favorite subjects to paint. As I am painting, I feel as though my subjects become real and as though I am actually there in the wild with them. I am drawn to the rainforests, to its creatures and beautiful plants and flowers. It is extremely important to me as an individual and as an artist that we preserve the beauty and wealth of life found only in the rainforests for future generations.
Other subjects that I love to paint are animals found in the sea; mermaids are the imaginary subjects that I love to paint and sea turtles, dolphins and whales are other subjects that I enjoy portraying in their underwater world. I believe that using ones imagination and the creation of fantasy is one of the joys of being an artist. Envisioning my subjects where they live rather than in a zoo or in captivity, is something else that I find extremely satisfying as an artist.
Most people who see my work for the first time almost always remark as to the bright colors I use in my paintings. It seems this has become my trademark. The use of bold colors is my way to convey my emotions and how I feel about the beauty I see on our planet. My passion for the subjects I paint spills forth into vibrant, brilliant colors. Sometimes I cannot seem to makes the colors brilliant enough!
Painting for me is pure joy! I work in my studio daily and feel that to be an artist and have a career that I enjoy is such a gift. I absolutely love working on a painting for someone with a “vision”, using my talents as an artist to create a special piece just for that person! It is really fun creating a painting for someone and knowing that you have created their “masterpiece”!
Perhaps one of my paintings will remind you of a place that you have visited or would like to visit in the future. I would like to pass on to others how very fortunate we are to live in a world with so much beauty. Even though we may have tragedy, if we can look to the light and continue to see the beautiful, we have hope! Each day is precious and life, a gift!
